ABACUS MEDIA RIGHTS TO DISTRIBUTE KING OTTO DOCUMENTARY AHEAD OF POSTPONED EURO 2020 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cinéma Nolita and Abacus Media Rights (AMR), a member of the Amcomri Media Group, today announce that AMR has secured international sales rights to Cinéma Nolita’s new documentary King Otto, ahead of the postponed Euro 2020 football championships which will take place in June 2021.

King Otto (1 x 81’), reveals the inspirational story of the Greek National Football Team’s miracle triumph at the 2004 European Championships - the biggest shock in international football history.

The sports feature documentary is directed by Christopher André Marks, produced by Shani Hinton and executive produced by Ronald L. Chez. Piece of Magic Entertainment will release theatrically in select territories. Umbrella Entertainment will release theatrically in Australia, New Zealand and Tanweer in Greece and Cyprus.

Christopher André Marks comments, “This is one of the greatest underdog sports stories never told. Beyond the remarkable football triumph, the story has a life affirming message of cultural unity and collaboration, presented at a time when we need such hopeful, uplifting themes.

We are very excited to be working with Abacus on sales and with great theatrical distributors in Piece of Magic, Tanweer and Umbrella Entertainment for key territories. All understand the passion with which football fans and the enthusiastic Greek world will embrace the story of one of the most remarkable moments in sports history.”

Jonathan Ford comments, “This is a timely acquisition to offer our clients as the delayed 2020 European Championships will now take place 11 June to 11 July 2021. It’s a classic account of a ‘victorious underdog’ story which resonated with sports fans throughout Europe and indeed the world.”

In the summer of 2004, audiences looked on in disbelief as the Greek National Football Team, a country that had never previously won a single match or even scored a goal in a major tournament, took down the giants of world football to become the unlikeliest of European Champions.

The architect behind this unprecedented triumph was legendary German football coach ‘King’ Otto Rehhagel. After accomplishing every major success in Germany, he made the bold decision to leave all he knew behind and work in a foreign country with the underachieving Greek National Team. This is the story of how these two contrasting cultures came together to speak the same language and write a new chapter of Greek mythology.
