Scrublands is produced by Easy Tiger, which is filming the second season in Western Australia with new local production company Third Act Stories, founded by West Australian producer Martha Coleman (Diary of an Uber Driver, Praise). The new series will be Third Act Stories debut co-production.
The return season is an adaptation of Hammer’s novel Silver, where lead character Martin Scarsden returns to his childhood hometown, Port Silver, to set up a new life. On arrival he discovers the murder of a friend and confronts hidden truths about his past.
The new season is written by Felicity Packard, Jock Serong and Fiona Kelly and directed by WA director Ben Young (Clickbait, Hounds of Love).
The first season of Scrublands, a four part series shot in Victoria, debuted on Stan in November and secured international sales with the BBC from global distributor Abacus Media Rights.
The second season has attracted production funding from Screenwest, Lotterywest and the WA Regional Screen Fund and will commence production later this year.
The producing team includes Easy Tiger’s Ian Collie and Rob Gibson, Third Act Stories’ Coleman and Felicity Packard with EPs Michael Healy and Andy Ryan from the 9Network and Cailah Scobie and Alicia Brown for Stan.
