Produced by BriteSpark East Kevin McCloud: Scenic Drives in Stunning Cars (w/t) will see McCloud learn about each of the cars in a road trip around its country of origin, as well as the country’s heritage, history and culture.
The classic vehicles which feature in each of the six episodes include a Volvo P 1800, which McCloud drives across Sweden, taking in the archipelagos and seaside towns, and a Maserati 3500 GT, which he manoeuvres through provincial piazzas, medieval hilltop villages and ancient cities in Italy.
Other episodes will see him take in England’s Peak District and drive across Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coastal route.
Kevin McCloud: Scenic Drives in Stunning Cars was commissioned by Ian Dunkley, commissioning editor, factual entertainment and is exec produced by Tom Porter for Argonon label BriteSpark East, with Chris Richards series producing and Salvatore Assenza series directing.
The series is distributed internationally by Sphere Abacus and has already been pre-sold to Australian broadcaster the ABC.
Dunkley said: “From the French Riviera, Sweden and Italy to the Peak District and Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coastal route, this series combines iconic cars, extraordinary landscapes and Kevin’s indelible curiosity, for a programme that feels both nostalgic and fresh.”
McCloud added that cars can tell the stories of “a place, perhaps a year, and an exciting moment”, and a vehicle’s country of origin is “expressed” in its engineering.
He continued: “Old cars are also a joy to explore and to drive, they demand more from us and usually therefore give more back than any modern motor, they put us in spiritual contact with the generations that went before us. So, it’s a genuine privilege to be able to get to know some of these modern fabled creatures. And to learn from them.”
