Presented by journalist and national treasure Angela Rippon, Great River Cruise Journeys includes two iconic river cruise journeys – the Mekong and the Danube.
Angela sails on the iconic Danube from Budapest in Hungary, through Vienna and Austria and on to Nuremberg and Bamberg in Germany before she travels from Cambodia to Vietnam, experiencing ancient temples, royal palaces and bustling cities like Phnom Penh.
EPISODE 1: DANUBE - PART ONE
Angela Rippon kicks off this brand new series with a stunning adventure down Europe’s second longest river. She joins her ship in breathtaking Budapest. Angela’s journey down the Danube continues as she travels through Slovakia to the romantic capital of Austria, Vienna. After departing Vienna it’s off to Krems, a historic place situated in the UNESCO world heritage site of the Wachau Valley.
EPISODE 2: DANUBE - PART TWO
Angela Rippon continues her journey through central Europe on The Danube to learn about customs, culture and history beginning in Salzburg Austria, the birthplace of a musical genius – Mozart and attempts the Schuplattler, a traditional folk dance. Angela continues through Bavaria to the Medieval town of Regensburg, home of the oldest surviving bridge in Germany and oldest restaurant in the world. Enroute to Nuremberg, Angela’s ship switches to the Rhine Main Danube Canal and passes through the highest point on earth that commercial watercraft from the sea can reach. In history-rich Nuremberg, Angela joins a guided walking tour to explore its significance as the medieval heart of the Holy Roman Empire, a twentieth century symbol of Nazi ideology and how it’s been rebuilt as a post war city of peace and human rights. Finally in Beautiful UNESCO listed Bamberg, Angela takes in the exquisitely preserved medieval and Baroque architecture and with its unrivalled brewing tradition, samples its signature smoked beer in a 600 year old tavern.
EPISODE 3: MEKONG: CAMBODIA
Angela Rippon hits the waterways of the world, this time she’s taking to the mighty Mekong, specifically in Cambodia. It is Angela’s first time in Cambodia and so before she boards her ship she heads to see the majestic sunrise over the iconic temple at Angkor Wat. It’s a wonderful start to her time in travelling this river.
EPISODE 4: MEKONG: VIETNAM
Angela Rippon continues her passage down the Mekong River into Vietnam to soak up more culture and customs along this famous South East Asia waterway. Angela explores authentic riverside markets, attempts artisanal crafts, delves into Vietnam’s history, visits the iconic paddy fields and witnesses exciting projects to herald a bold and vibrant future from eco-projects in Trà Su Cajaput forest to dynamic development and tourism in Ho Chi Minh city.
