THE TRIO

The Trio captures the aching, unbearable intensity of unspoken love, the fizzing electricity between glances and touches and the long lasting pain of near-confessions that never happen.

The story begins in New York with Hugo in his 40s: withdrawn, lonely and lecturing at university, when a young woman - the spitting image of Thora, the woman who changed everything - walks into his life. We will learn she is secretly his daughter. This encounter fractures times and we’re pulled into his 20’s, following Hugo, Thora and August through dream like summers; candle-lit Paris nights, glittering Stockholm parties, sun-drenched terraces, and hot, hazy days by the water.

We watch as moments to confess their love slip through their fingers, each time driving them further apart. Until their connection can no longer endure. Through this story we unpick how love like this can haunt a life forever.

The Trio is based on the novel by Johanna Hedman.
