Ever since he was a kid, Jay loved hockey. He remembers being in the stands at a Canadiens game, screaming alongside thousands of fans as fists flew on the ice. Decades later, hockey is still the most violent pro sport. Fighting has survived a movement to phase it out as part of the game, and is now perhaps more vital to it than ever before. And unlike other sports, when a brawl breaks out, it’s not a scandal - we celebrate it.
Told through Jay’s own unique lens, Blood on the Ice is a riotous, revealing, and sometimes uncomfortable soul-search. Through insane archival footage and incredible true stories brought back to life, we explore hockey’s hidden history of violence, not to pass judgment, but to ask an honest question:
WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT WE LOVE THIS PART OF THE GAME?
