Survival here is no longer defined by a single catch - it’s a gruelling, year-round marathon. The fishing calendar begins with scallop and snow crab, but Mother Nature refuses to surrender her early bounty without extracting a brutal toll in battered boats and broken gear. By the time the historic 150th lobster season kicks off, the fleet is already bleeding. A severe labour shortage and dangerously overcrowded waters are shattering the island's unwritten rules.
Desperate captains are abandoning traditional territories, sparking fierce border wars, while others weigh multi-million-dollar gambles on desolate new licenses that could alter their families' futures forever.
With the fleet's future hanging in the balance, the island's survival now rests on teenagers mastering deadly machinery, grieving greenhorns seeking healing on the water, and rookie captains navigating terrifying storms. Change is the only true constant on the Gulf, and the erosion that has long battered the shoreline is finally coming for the community itself. To protect their way of life and preserve their hard-fought livelihoods, the Last Captains must trust the next generation to take the helm before the sea takes it all. Because weathering the storms ahead won't just take a few tough skippers - it will take every last one of them.
SEASON 1
The Last Captains follows generational fishing families living in a remote archipelago in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. While the fishermen chase big catches and paydays on the water, the 400 residents in town are in the fight of their lives to stave off Mother Nature and preserve their unique community
On the water, the young captains fish scallop, crab, and lobster - chasing massive catches and big paydays while trying to outsmart and outlast Mother Nature. On the land, the town bands together fighting to keep their precious community from crumbling into the sea.
